Best Cool Gadgets for Kids for 2016-2017

Cute little girl about age 5

Okay, going to have some fun with this – I have already hunted down all of the top-selling cool kid gadgets – technology learning toys for kids for this holiday season (Christmas 2016 to 2017 at this writing), but have not yet had the opportunity to put together the “best ofs” on one page.

Of all the ones that are out there on the market, which ones are getting the most smiles from kids and getting their parents seal of approval?

Which Educational and Fun Technology Toys are making the “hot list” and stealing the hearts of babies, toddlers and kids this year? Here are 8 of them to choose from that you won’t want to miss…

1. Cozmo (For kids age 8 and up)

Cozmo

I just LOVE this little guy! He is most definitely a “cool technology gadget,” but he goes way beyond that. Truly a huge leap forward in AI robot technology advancement. Not only to kids get a huge kick out of Cozmo, he is also hard for adults to resist. Smart, funny and – well, yes, he is lovable too.

Definitely a hot seller for babies – this toy responds to babies at various stages, to introduce different levels of learning. Little ones will be delighted to how this toy acts when touched and acted upon in various ways – and it provides not only sensory learning, but pre-school learning as well in later stages.

3. Fisher-Price Dance & Move BeatBowWow (For babies and toddlers 9 mos to 3 years)

Last year, we had BeatBo – now we have his canine counterpart, BeatBowWow! Love this toy – in fact I got rather enthralled with it while playing with it in a discount store. 🙂 To some degree, this is another “grow with your child” toy, starting out with some interaction that delights infants and moving on into early learning skill like counting.

4. Osmo Genius Kit (For kids age 6 and older)

While not a “gadget” in itself per se, this kit turns probably the most popular among technology gadgets out there (the iPad) into the ultimate “learning gadget” for kids – The Osmo Genius Kit is one of a number of different kits now available, which brings the iPad to life in an AI sort of way, and is claimed to bridge the gap between the real world and the digital world. Truly this holiday season is bringing forth some amazing technology for kids, this is not the least of the lineup.

5. VTech Sort and Discover Activity Cube (For babies and toddlers 9 mos to 3 years)

I was happy to see this new addition to the baby tech “hot toys” lineup this year. With a whopping five sides, this cube helps little ones learning about everything from colors and numbers to animals – and of course sorting shapes and colors. Fun!

6. Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-a-pillar (For kids ages 3 to 8)

My personal favorite among all technology toys this year, this little “pillar” gives little ones an introduction to programming! How to work out a sequence in order to make the caterpillar move in the direction the child wants? That’s the main name of the game – even though this one is pretty new this year, it is making huge hits with kiddos and parents.

7. LeapFrog LeapStart Interactive Learning System (For toddlers and kids ages 2 to 4)

LeapFrog LeapStart Interactive Learning System for Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten

There are a couple of these “gadget” learning systems for kids this year – this particular one is for preschool-age children (there is another one that is for kindergarten and first grade). What stands out with this year’s latest and greatest from LeapFrog is that it is designed to actually get children ready for school – providing different activity books (sold separately) that cover different subjects and help give kids a “leg up” when it’s time to enter the classroom – or to start in on home school.

8. Kano Computer Kit (For kids age 6 and up)

Kano Computer Kit

This “gadget” is actually a full-fledged STEM toy – and while it might seem “over the head” of children, it’s actually not. Designed to be simple understand and easy to put together, this build it yourself computer will not only help kiddos have their own computer (at an affordable price), it will also teach them a thing or two about how computers are put together. (And – ahem, mom and dad, you might want to look in over the shoulder of your child while he or she puts it together – you might learn something as well!) 🙂
